When I viewed the image of this powerful gray horse, I was inspired to combine his dynamic movement and presence with that of an onrushing wave to celebrate the myth of the Greek god, Poseidon, creating the first horse. I had instinctively been painting horses in waves for years before I ran across references to Poseidon's creation of the horse. I then learned that aspects of the horse are often compared with elements of the sea.

"Poseidon's Gift"
"As the bow of a ship thrusts into the waves, the horse's breast drives forward in his gallop surmounted by his flying mane scattered like flung spray."
