“Presently he would wheel around and stare in another direction,
pointing his ears forward to listen to some faint far sound
which had touched his senses.”
~ William Henry Hudson
This portrait is one of my favorites. Kacey was an orphaned foal who survived due to his owner’s love and persistence. The morning after her vigil, his owner Valerie came out of the barn to see a morning star, which she took as a sign that he would make it. I painted the star into the piece, as well as the fall leaves that surround her property. He is portrayed in a montage of his growing up from young foal to three-year-old.
