“Sometimes, when we are in the midst of the desert, we may feel that we are without a path. Yet if we tap into our own inner strength we can see the way before us appear like a distant horizon wavering into form.”
~ Kim McElroy
When I had the inspiration to paint this creation, I had gone through a period where I was having difficulty creating new works. During this time, I heard a quote from author, Caroline Myss, referring to the time before she could write as “the desert”. I identified with this term. While searching for ideas for paintings the next day, I ran across a photo of the woman standing in the desert that I had kept for several years. Intuition told me that this couldn’t be coincidence and that inspiration was at hand. I had the unusual impulse to leave the horizon unfinished. Later I realized this was a perfect metaphor for the potential that horizon represents.
