Home Sweet Home

“The love for a horse is just as complicated as the love for another human being…
if you never love a horse, you will never understand.”

~ Author Unknown

This is a portrait of a horse named Beau. It depicts the first moment of Beau’s homecoming when Cindy brought him home from an auction where his fate would have likely been sealed. A former racetrack Pony Horse, Beau was considered used up, but it was his spirit that spoke to Cindy that day. Many years later, when Cindy laid him to rest – her love for him inspired the creation of a website for horse owners who had lost their horses, www.hoofbeats-in-heaven.com – a place where people could come to heal and to find others who feel as they do about their horses. In the background of Beau’s portrait I created an image of Mt. Rainier – which Cindy can see from Beau’s pasture, and which will now serve to remind her of his everlasting spirit. In the mountain are shapes in which the discerning eye can trace the form of a horse on the upper left, and also local legend talks of the deer in the upper middle.

Cindy’s Comments:

“The portrait is the most treasured thing I’ve ever had. It’s unbelievably alive. You never met Beau, and you captured every inch of his being. Every single person who has seen it has been speechless too. Many have commented particularly on his eyes. And of course, the bond jumps out at everyone. Everyone also immediately knows it’s Mt. Rainier and they have all seen the elk head. I can’t believe a human being can create something so magical and powerful and beautiful.”
