Mystic Grace

Mystic Grace

“In ancient times
The animals were known
As sacred messengers from the gods

Their natural power and vital energy
Reminded us of divinity
And filled us with awe

May we return again to the ways of our ancestors
By perceiving the wisdom of the animal kingdom
And understanding its mystic grace.”

~ Kim McElroy

I met Grace’s owner Suzanne in 2012 along with her four horses. The first Soul Essence portrait I created for Suzanne was of her Arabian gelding KC. The inspiration for KC’s portrait “Alchemy” was from my meditation in which I asked for guidance for what he wished to communicate to Suzanne about their connection. He appeared against desert sands with imagery representing the Egyptian falcon god Horus.

Grace had an unusually similar Egyptian connection.  When I did a meditation for Grace’s portrait, I saw a wide body of water with light reflecting diamonds on the water, an Ibis, and some grasses.  In researching grasses to depict near the Nile I googled “Nile Grass” and found a picture of papyrus – which I knew was what early paper was made from, and I had never realized was a form of grass.

In Egyptian mythology the Ibis represents the god Thoth who is known as the wisdom keeper and scribe of the gods who brought writing to humankind. Thus the Papyrus was a fitting symbol and a timely reminder that Suzanne related to her desire to become a writer. The message from Grace was simple. To seek the flow in life….

Grace was a rescue horse who had been severely neglected.  After years of care and a happy life with other horse companions, Grace became an angel shortly before I started creating her portrait.  Her portrait continues to offer Suzanne a connection to her spirit. In time we may know why these vivid Egyptian connections are coming through Suzanne’s horses but she has taken it in her stride as she knows her horses are her teachers.
