THE STORY BEHIND THE ART
This painting depicts an encounter I will never forget. I was visiting this bay mare at a Wyoming ranch where she lived with other mares and a stallion. My reverie was interrupted as the stallion, sensing a silent signal from the mare, issued a throaty whinny and galloped to her. I stepped quickly aside and watched, spellbound, as they exchanged their silent greeting. With her decline of his attention, he departed peacefully, showing me the perfection of authentic communication.
