Lakota's Reflection
My eyes are the mirrors of my soul,
From the darkness, the light of my spirit was awakened
My eyes reflected the world around me
A world that I did not always want to see
My eyes shine clear and bright
Now that I am surrounded by love
My eyes see my own true self

THE STORY BEHIND THE ART
Lakota is a beautiful Palomino Paint horse. His owner, Mike, rescued him. When Mike tracked down all of his previous owners he realized that Lakota had an unhappy life with some of them. Mike felt it was important to give something back to Lakota to honor his true self, so he managed to obtain his registration as a Palomino Paint with the APHA. When Mike found Lakota’s breeder, who had loved him, she said he had come into the world kicking, so she had picked the Native American name for him of Lakota. Little did she know he would need that strength to survive. Mike and his wife were fans of my art and Mike particularly liked my series of reflections in horse’s eyes, so he asked me to paint Lakota's image in his eye, to pay tribute to the dream that Mike had, that came true; of Lakota coming home to himself.
