Namaste
Gaze into my eyes.
In my regard
see yourself reflected.
You too, wear a shawl
bestowed by your experiences.
What you see in me is your own divinity.

THE STORY BEHIND THE ART
Melisande or “Mel” for short, was an Arabian mare dearly loved by her owner Sharon, who offered her a home in retirement after her many homes and many years spent as a show horse. After Mel passed away, Sharon asked me to paint Mel’s spirit in an Essential Soul Essence Portrait.
In meditation I saw an image of Mel and Sharon facing each other. In between them was a bowl. It seemed to be a ceremony of sharing the bowl – each sipping from it like in a tea ceremony. The feeling of sharing the tea felt like the gesture of bowing to one another in the greeting Namasté. which is a gesture of placing the hands together and bowing in greeting to another. It can simply mean hello, but "in Hinduism it also has a spiritual import reflecting the belief that "the divine and self is same in you and me", and connotes "I bow to the divine in you".
Other images evolved, the gong of ceremony, and the presence of a white dove. Reflected in the tea in the bowl was written the characters for Namasté. There was a purple shawl around Mel’s shoulders denoting her as a wise teacher – but humble. The message was everything Sharon might see in her, she also sees in Sharon.
